A charming butterfly well taken, seen a PB but they would rest with their wings open I prefer them like this.

Very nice indeed, waiting for the Heath fritillaries to emerge but a little later than last year.. Very well observed and taken.

Nice and even more remarkable to have been shot with a 50mm lens + dioptre, no way can I get this close to any form of B'fly....

Thanks all.
First of all if its warm and sunny - forget it. What I do is find a good site and then go back in the evening or early morning and look for them roosting .I used to find dozens on St Johns Wort and on dead stems from last year.. Find them like that and you can get as close as you want.
Cheers

I was up there looking for pbf s about three weeks ago. We found plenty but as you rightly say the sun was up and they would not stop - I never got a shot, so I am pretty jealous of this superb image. (We had some fun with the lizards though and I got a shot or two of those. No flycatchers there then and the people we were with were saying how their numbers had declined in that area which tied in with some of your previous threads.)
