Chances are this is a bit to subtle/abstract for most here, but what the hey.
I've always enjoyed the work of William Neill, and this image was inspired by some of his photographs of trees against backdrops of rock. In larger sizes (nothing like cramming an 8500 pixel scan down to 650 pixels), the various textures and shapes sort themselves out a bit more, though part of the intention is for the trees to blend into the rock to some extent (thus a bit of push and pull between the two). Thanks for looking.
I like the tension created here, Joel. I bet the textures are fascinating at full size. And it's really fun (and inspiring) to watch a creative mind at work.
This is one of those shots that look absolutely incredible on the light box or printed really big. The subtleties in texture and color can shine. It has an almost abstract feel to it, very nice.
Joel, personally I am a big fan of these kind of captures and you have done a wonderful job with this one!

Joel, this is simply outstanding. The vertical lines over the horizontal, and the closeness of the textures between the bark, rock and lichens make my eyes roam all over. Another masterful photo. Ken

This is excellent, Joel. The longer you look at it, the better the trees stand out from the rock bg yet how close they each intertwine as well. Large print would be nice on my wall
I'm with Beth - a large print would look very nice on my wall. What do you think Beth - at least 32 x 40?? Joel, you got any of those just lying around?
Nice work - want to view this on a calibrated monitor but I'm sure the proof would be in a print. I really like this though....

Looks great on my calibrated monitor, Joel! Yup, if you're in a giving mood and have a few extra prints sitting around, I'd be willing to take one off your hands!
Hey thanks everyone for support, it's genuinely appreciated. It can sometimes get disheartening when I tend to make photographs that lack traditional mass-appeal (I don't take to many ultra-wide magic hour shots). Thus, your encouragement means a lot!
As far as prints go...no 32x40's sitting around I'm afraid. My printer is actually out of commission at the moment as I'm re-profiling for my preferred paper. Perhaps we could organize a MWNP print exchange at some point. Has that ever been attempted? Maybe it's unreasonable.
