Hi everyone
That is now severall week that I have been trying to photograph kingfisher.Every year it is the same problem...what prop am I going to use. In this case I use a branch of dogrose with flower on it. Does it work?
Taken with mark 3 300 f2.8 (f5.6) at 400 iso.
Good evening everyone

I like this !
It looks a bit out of place at first but then I,ve seen them sitting on Rose before. Maybe the flower ? I'm not sure. They say don't have two beautiful things together. !!
Cheers

I think the rose is a bit too close to the Kingfisher, and thus competes with it for attention. Perhaps if the flower were more to the left, the two might counterbalance each other better.
Its brilliant apart from that Middle rose and leaf, its drawing your eye towards it and not her!
Great background, looking forward to the next one!

I have to say, I really quite like this! It's unusual (thats good) and in my view a very saleable shot. Great pose too. The only thing I would say is that its a little busy with all the leaves, so perhaps a branch with fewer leaves would be better...
Bonsoir Frederic
The pinks of the rose compliment the birds colours nicely-there my femine side coming out again I have come back to it a couple of times before commenting as i was unsure at first but think its a lovely image and very nicely composed
It doesn't work for me. The Rose competes too much for attention and I can't recall ever seeing it growing by the river bank so the whole thing looks rather obviously set up too.
Perch does not bother me at all neither do the rose flowers on it. When I lived at home we would regulary get KF coming to our garden pond and they would have to use either a Rose bush, Buddelia or an Apple tree. My only nit is the white's on the neck patch look hot.
I've yet to see a kingfisher, so can't comment about the suitability of the perch. I find the composition and colours to be stunning, although the adjacent flower does compete for attention.
It's nice to see a different KF perch from the more usual stump; the rose does pull at the eye a bit and it's highlights are a little distracting, but it is still a lovely image. There are plenty of wild roses overhanging our local canals and I am sure that the Kingfishers would be happy to use them. A little different as ever Frederic and that is no bad thing.

I was not sure about that middle rose either.....
Thanks for your comments. It is incredible to see how photography is so subjectif!

Lovely capture! The composition is great as is the pose of the KF! As for the flower I'd prefer it not to be there!

I think its a good plan and well conceived. Nice to see a bit of floral colour in these perches. Not sure it works for me in this instance as there is just a bit too much going on and the kingfisher almost looks like it is fighting for room. Definitely worth pursuing though - just a wee adjustment to the perch.

Almost has a 'garden' type feel, and i can't make up my mind if this perch would be more suited to a coal/blue tit etc, rather than a KF.
Its a lovely shot though, and probably my uncertaincy is simply due to me becoming so used to the more common perches associated with most KF images.
