Finding myself with enough brownie points to got out for a while I tripped to the river banks looking for Gomphers, a bit late I fear. But this chap presented some wonderful opportunities.

Sharpness is good and your dof is excellent, as is the background. However, the composition doesn't work for me at all. You don't menion where you cropped from, but I find this composition 'uncomfortable'.
you've captured the damselfly very nicely but I tend to agree with Greg that the composition doesn't quite work. There's a bit too much empty space above and to the right of the damselfly.
Now you've gone and spoiled it Paul... you have recropped your web version by the looks of it, all it needs is a tilt anticlockwise and crop some from the top.....
When you say the crop is now about 30% do you mean that it is 30% of the full frame or you cropped 30% off the full frame?
Other than that it is nice although looks to have been taken close to midday, a lower angle to the light or a very light cloud cover does wonders for these magnificent damsels...
Hello Paul,
I much prefer the original as well. Lovely background on this, I spent a morning last summer trying to get these and I couldn't get a single shot without really cluttered surroundings; so well done. Was this as found or did you remove the perch to a more photogenic position?
