I'm trying to get up earlier this year to capture the golden hours of light. Unfortunately this doesn't mean golden hours of clouds, but what can you do.
I'm also trying to get a handle on using a wider angle lens. This is the Canon 17-40 f/4.0 on a 20D.
I'd be interested in any critiques and comments you might have about the image. Personally I'd love to have the reflection sharper and some clouds to fill in the sky. The grasses in the LRC are slightly bothersome, but not nearly enough to clone them out. Next time I'll be framing a little more diligently in the field.
Alex - I'll ditto Jesse's comments. I like the two different surface textures a lot; they both add interest, and it's not something you see in a lot of shots. The top would benefit from additional sky; even though it may not hold much interest, it's needed for balance and breathing room.
The grasses aren't a big deal, imo, but they're in that in-between category - none of them or more of them could both work better. If it had been possible, I think having more of them would be ideal as they would tie in with the little tips on the left and make for some nice, cohesive foreground diversity.
I like this one Aleksei. I agree the textures in the water are cool, no worries about the reflection sharpness. While I agree just a little more breathing room on the top might be nice, I kind of like the change of pace here. With more emphasis on the foreground lake you don't care as much about the lack of clouds.
Ooops - I meant to post a revised image without the original crop of some sky and it looks like I replaced the original. Sorry. I also tried to open up the middle ground trees a little.
Thanks for the comments guys; I really appreciate your input.

Wow I love the separation of calm and rippled water... very unique!

Still, an excellent image for the moment.

Definitely worth the early wake-up call!
