I know this isn't an equipment forum but lots of equipment stuff does get posted so here goes (I'm sure the mods will remove it if deemed necessary )
It would seem that after much speculation, the eagerly anticipated successor to the popular Canon 5D is about to be announced.
I have mentioned this on 'another forum' (yes, there ARE others ) but Amazon have announced the publication of a 5D II users field guide (slated for November this year) which suggests the camera may well be announced very soon.
Canon have a habit of announcing cameras just BEFORE big photo events (i.e they announced new kit just before PMA this Spring) so as Photokina is in late summer, then the 5D II is likely to be announced before then.
Thought some of you might be interested especially anyone thinking of buying a 5D
I'm waiting patiently for the Sony twenty-something MP FF beast to come out and then I'll get the Sony 300mm f2.8 and a few other lenses to go with.
No.....I'll stick with the inferior Canon gear for now and hope that they deliver a decent 5DII.

Good stuff! Will definitely look at a mkII - very impressed with the mkI. There is a good chance it will be announced soon. If memory serves, they like to bring out new gear for major events such as the Olympics too.
Canon usually only make one model release announcement per year.
People I know in the CPS (US side not UK which is pretty useless) tell me the 5D II WAS originally going to be announced at the same times as the 450D but they held back pending further announcements from the 'opposition' so that they could include other functionality.
How true this is will come to light very shortly I imagine
the amazon guide was first put up about 3 months ago, the rumours of the new 5dmk2 have been flying around since this time last year, I'm glad I didn't wait and bought mine in November, no doubt canon will release it when its capable of rivalling the d3, then watch out for the rumoured 1dmk3n.....
