Flying Cuckoo
This was really a lucky shot! I was hiding behind a bush shooting flying Grebes, when I heart the call from a close Cuckoo. In the moment I thought him to be real close, I jumped out from the bush and managed 4 images of him as he flew by.

1D Mark3 + 500/4; iso400, f7.1, 1/3200; "Ring-of-fire", handheld, almost full frame.

Crikey Helge.............catching a cuckoo in flight is an extremely rare sight, and an excellent result into the bargain :toast: :toast:

Well done you!!

What can I say Helge - as rare a sight and shot as hens teeth :toast:

Thanks for all your comments, they are much appreciated!

John, by "Ring-of-fire" I mean with all the outer focuspoints activated (instead of just the central focuspoint - which I usually use for flight-shots).

Cheers, Helge

Well I think I would be more than pleased with this one Helge.
As all have said you dont see many flight shots of Cuckoo and you have reacted quickly and come up with a fine shot and you have managed it hand holding a 500 F4.
I would be dead chuffed with this. :toast:

Great technique in catching the bird in flight. Not heard one, let alone seen one, around here for at least fifteen years :frown:

Excellent and I'm envious. I saw one for the first time last week in the Hebrides. Was able to watch it for a few minutes on a telegraph wire, calling repeatedly, but could get near enough. Lucky you! The eye contact makes the shot.

Excellent shot Helge I have only ever heard one let alone photograph one. stunning :toast: :toast:
