Yankee Boy Sunrise
Last Monday I woke up really early and hiked to a ridgeline above Yankee Boy Basin for sunrise. My main goal was a unique alpenglow vantage of Sneffels from the east, but I ended up liking this view to the south more. That's Gilpin Peak to the right, and Mount Emma to the left of that.

Sometime soon I hope to repeat this endeavor but take the shots from the summit of Sneffels itself.

This is a stitched image of about 1.5 shots from the Sigma DP1. My 4x5 shots are undeveloped as of yet.

Holy cow, the amount of snow remaining down there just floors me! Cool shot, Jack. I like how you've got alpenglow AND a bit of remaining Earth shadow action.

Wow Jack, Fantastic View! Can't wait to see what you get at the Sneffels summit.

Great job, hope you had a fun day (I am sure you did) and look forward to your 4x5s!

Man, you sure did get up early to capture this. Beautiful image, Jack. I had no idea there was still this much snow.

Thanks for your comments! Here's one of the Sneffels pics. Not exactly how I wanted to frame it... I had an easier time with the 4x5.

Todd - I didn't even notice that bit of earthshadow until you pointed it out! Sweet!

Very nice. I like the Sneffels shot too. Both are great.

How far into the basin can you drive? I hate to think how early I'd have to get up to make it to that ridge for alpenglow!

Man, these are both sweet, Jack. Definitely looking forward to seeing what you got on the 4x5. Hard to believe we're 7 days away from summer....

Fantastic, as usual, Jack! I'm wondering if maybe I could get a small sled of some sort, and you could just pull me along on some of these hikes.

Both are most excellent, but the 2nd really rocks! Nice job passing up sleep for a climb and images.

You are the man, Jack. I envy you, your youth, and your dedication to altitiude. I don't see very many with the quality you achieve in this environment. Keep 'em coming.

Beautiful! I envision a killer wildflower season this year.

I'm with Chad, I wanna ride that sled too.

Can't wait to see more. The combo of alpenglow and sky gradation is nice.
