Spent the day at my local patch glued to the lens watching this fellow fishing - boy can they eat some fish! This just one shot of a sequence from surfacing with fish to diving again for another

This is a nice action shot. I feel the subject could have benefited from being a bit more frame filling, as there isn't a lot of interest in the background. There seems to be a bit of a blue colour cast on my monitor, although that may well have been the colour of the water that day.
Hi Colin, you have witnessed and photographed some great action. Grebes can eat some very large fish! There are two things you can do here to improve the photo: One is to get a lower angle and thus avoid much of the sky reflection in the water. The other is if you can place yourself so that you get reflection from reedbeds or similar in the water to give it some nice color.
If it's your local patch I'm sure you can find angles or times of days where colour of water and light will be better. An idea could be to try very early in the morning.
Agree with what the guys above have said,Is this a crop as it looks abit grainy or not critically sharp-You have caught the bird taking the fish down nicely and certainly worth keeping with it and trying to improve on these great looking birds
I agree that it looks like a fair size crop, but you have caught the action nicely. It will certainly do until you can get a more flattering bg and a closer subject. Eric
