Dewatto Cabin (with reposts)
Just another shot of this old cabin with purple iris's blooming. This is a blend of two photos. I guess i wanted to show the sky on this one unlike the other shots i took (horizontal). Comments and critiques appreciated. Cliff

in my opinion the flowers are too strong.....I think you would have benefited from standing up and shooting them so that they were just below the cabin.....great colors and nice exposure....they are just in the wrong place

Great cabin. Beautiful scene. I agree with Darren's comments though I think the shot comes into balance by cropping down a little more than 1/2 the sky to the roof.

There is an old deck that is rotted out you can see through the flowers, and on the end of the cabin is a bunch of junk stacked up, the reason for shooting so low. I can see cropping some of the sky out though. :)

The flowers make the shot, imo, Cliff. I sure agree with losing a lot of the sky, though it's a great depiction of this year's Spring weather.

Another one horizontal, less sky.

Cliff,
IMO, I like the 1st better with a crop of the sky . the second doen't have enough of the cabin.

Heres another shot with a wider view.

Cliff,
What catches my eyes is the blend line on top of the trees on the hills. Otherwise I like the first one best and I don't think the flowers are too overpowering.

Really nice scene, Cliff. #3 works best for me. I like #1 as well, but prefer the more expansive view. Ditto Erik's comment about the dark tree tops. Looks like a nice place to hang out with beer and a good book.

Looks like a nifty place to stay.. the 2nd is best.

3 is where it's at! :toast:

Yes, I like three the best here. Just work on the blend a little bit more so that bright fore and mid ground match the darker sky closer and flow more. If you use PS try using more pixels in feathering the layers as one approach.

Derek, i'm simple man when it comes to ps2. I can do the basics and thats it. I even have a photoshop 2 book and its basically greek to me. So when you say use more pixels in feathering the layers, i got no clue. :0). One day i may take a class. I did use two photos here. And I just clone stamped the exposure for the sky pic, onto the exposure for the cabin pic. I did lighten the tops of the trees in the saved photo with the lighten tool. I like taking multiply exposures instead of using gnd's, but am still working on blending them together. Thanks for the critique, Cliff

Cliff,

I understand what you mean. Blends are not easy and some choose to use automated methods such as HDR, pixmatics, etc... But I read a great tutorial by Jesse Speer a couple of years ago which helped me a great deal. Here it is if you would like to check it out:
