I'll be in CO July 12-19 and plan to do some wildflower shooting. My boss will be with me and i'm also giving him the grand tour (he's never been to CO and i'm addicted to it). He's not a photog, but i'm planning to fix that!!

My plan is to hit the I-70 corridor for a few days while he's at a conference in Boulder and then head to the San Juans and meander. I've heard good things about the Pagosa Springs area, but can anyone provide me with some specifics for wildflowers or things not to be missed? We'll have 4WD, but won't be doing any long, steep hikes (we're Flatlanders, after all).

Thanks and if you'll be in the area, please shoot me an email and maybe we can meet up. :wavey:

I can't think of any specific locations in Pagosa right now, but I think there are a few profiled in Pamela and David Irwin's book Colorado's Best Wildflower Hikes, Vol. 3: The San Juans. If you don't have this book check it out, (and perhaps the previous two volumes) because there are a many good suggestions for locations throughout the San Juan region.

Amy, there are several forest service roads that take off from Highway 160 near Wolf Creek Pass that provide access to high mountain meadows, cascades and wild flowers. No serious 4X4 needed. The two on the west side of the pass usually keep me happy for close-to-home shooting.
