Didn't realise i had kept this shot, as it was one of my 'approach' shots, while i was edging my way nearer to the birds.
I often bin these shots 'in the field' if i feel the bird is a touch small in the frame, but glad i kept this one, as i quite like it {especially as the bird is doing something}.
Have resisted the temptation to seriously crop, and shall print it as is.

For me exactly the right size in the frameand well worth keeping.... an excellent image. I keep everything untill I have extracted every useable image, I then archive to two locations one with every RAW file, the other with only the files I have converted.

I think this is far better than the previous post. It has the action of singing and that halo BG.

I agree with all that's been said - the background mimicking the foreground really makes it.
Can't believe you normally bin these sort of shots, I'd kill for a shot like this! CF cards are dirt cheap now so I carry loads of cards and delete nothing until I've ran them through Lightroom.

All been said Alan - I too like it better than the first and that was brilliant
I like this a lot - especially after trying to get one myself and failing miserably. I might crop just a little from the bottom (to just above the fuzzy bit)
That's definitely one to keep! I'd choose to keep the bird this size in the frame rather than much closer. The diagonal gorse branch is great, as is the light and action caught. My only (minor) nits would be the fuzzy bit at the bottom and the OOF blue semi circle to the left of the linnet's head. A lovely image all the same that I'd be well happy with.
Definitely keep as it is Alan. This has everything, the bird is singing, it gives a sense of its environment, the oof foreground gives depth, nice catchlight in eye and the lighting is great. What more could you want.
Robert.

Agree with all the praise above, the BG works a treat and it's nice and sharp from front to back - if it were mine I think I might try cropping a little from the bottom.

As an aside, I had a female linnet in my garden for a week last month. Never seen that before.
