Moon Plough
Lasts nights attempt wandering Dartmoor for some moonlight photography, this time trying to get the Great Bear into a shot.

Constellations are not usually big enough to include, so I was pleased to get this image with an interesting tree. I will certainly try and get Orion this winter. Its barely getting dark enough these days, note the lighter parts of the lower sky even at 2am.

Lots of drumming snipe flying around in the dark, so errie near Bonehill Rocks. Also nightjars and foxes, a few young badgers, summer is in full swing, but I was still wearing a hat and gloves.

Many thanks and hope you enjoy it.

Like it a great deal david - this type of low-light landscape work always impresses me and reminds me I need to find time (ha ha) in my busy schedule to do more of it myself.

You should be grateful you have access to as remote a spot ass Dartmoor to do this type of work by the way - any town or city dwellers have no hope at all!

Believe me I am very grateful. I have to get out to the centre of the moors in winter this year as I am sure the detail I could pull out of a crisp night sky would be staggering. Luckily Plymouth and Exeter are east and west respectivily, so I can keep light pollution to a minimum. Its just not getting dark enough at the moment.

Ahh, the big-dipper, or Ursa Major {just proving to my old teachers, that i did pay attention in class  }.

I like this David...........simple composition, although i'm sure quite difficult to expose precisely.

Fine result :toast:

Well the constellation is there to see plain as day(huh??) and I think it's simplicity makes it a great shot David :toast:

But c'mon - walking around on Dartmoor in the middle of the night

I would be looking over my shoulder all the time if i was there in the middle of the night

A really nice image, that was very well thought out :toast:

Absolutely stunning. A very unusual image that seems almost dream like to me and perfectly executed. The only thing I'm curious about is how it would look if the horizon was a little more defined where it runs through the tree...it would probably draw the eye away from the constellation and spoil the relationship between the beautiful dark green tones. Great stuff, Tristan

ah-ha, the reason for the positioning is that there are a number of smaller and very uncomplimentary trees hidden behind the big one. I had to work with the positioning of the constellation more than anything else and after moving around this was the optimum point of balance. Any lower and there would be some blobs, and I dont want no blobs.

Thank you my friends.
