Hi all
Another from my swallowtail escapades. Not sure whether these were fighting males or a courting couple, although one seems a tad larger than the other so I guess the latter.
Quite please that, even though I was shooting nearly wide open, I've managed to get both butterfly heads in focus (not the case with the dozen other frames either side of this one though!).
Canon 1dmk3, 70-200/1.4x at 240mm iso 400 f4.5 1/640. Very slight crop for better web presentation. Bit of cloning to tidy up the background.
This is butterfly photography at its best Simon.
Not only document a butterfly on a plant.
I have mirrored it, for my taste it is more
comfortable for the viewer.
As Alan said, that's an ambitious shot, but its come out really well. I'm undecided if I like the motion in the wings as it suggests movement, or if I'd prefer them to be frozen with a faster shutter speed. Anyhow, the light's very good and I like the composition - good timing too.

Very well done Simon. Two swallowtails in a BiF as well!! Never seen that before. you've done well to get the heads in focus, but I feel it might stand a little more usm. Excellent comp and bg too. Eric
