Second Chance
I've always tried to spend some time with my boys in the outdoors on Fathers Day, and I was pretty bummed that things just didn't work out for us this year. Then a big storm Sunday night knocked out the power at my work and at home. We set out Monday to find a waterfall on White Rock Creek that Tim E mentions in his Arkansas Hiking Trails book, and had a great time.

Oh, and by the way, I just learned that in May of 2005 this trail was listed as one of the "5 Best Hikes in America" by Readers Digest.

Very nice! Great light in the trees, and I think having your kids in the picture is great!

What a great way to spend the day, John. Your shot is perfect for a slightly delayed Father's day. If this is the waterfall I am thinking about, you can walk right behind it. Did you take the trail from Shore's Lake?

You had some great lighting for this image John. It looks like your kids were having a great time exploring. Thanks for sharing!

An excellent way to spend time with your boys. Congrats on getting this beauty of a shot and the chance to spend the time with them.

Your boys look like they are in tune to the smaller things in nature John. A great way to spend any day! Beautiful shot all around.

Thanks for the comments everybody. Tom, yes we took the trail from Shores Lake, though we saved a little bit of time by picking up the trail at the road. We could have walked behind the falls, but I would have had to stoop a bit.

To me, this evokes an aching and wistful sense of nostalgia. It looks like you were able somehow to take a picture of a memory of something that happened ten years ago. Or it's ten years from now and you're looking back at this picture you took in 2008, when your children were still children.

Hi John been missing you around here lately. I'm glad to see you back and you captured a beautiful image with your boys. I think this will be a great image for you and your boys to look back on.

Better late than never...looks like you guys had a great time. And what a beautiful place to explore! The light in the trees and on the water was pretty nice too. Thanks for sharing, John.
