You remember the sudden heat wave of a couple of weeks ago...
The Icicle River in Leavenworth crested on Sunday, 10:00 AM and I shot these when I could get away at about 5:00 PM. These are the huge boulders just above the Snow Lakes parking area. I walked into the off limits irrigation access road just upstream to take this first shot (hand held), then scrambled down to the edge of the water for the second. The roar of the water sounded like having your ear next to a major water fall – this was not your usual spring runoff. The river was one mass of whitewater from the mouth of the canyon up through Bridge Creek Campground. The following weekend, with the water only a tad bit lower, there were whitewater kayakers out there.
I would like to apologize for not contributing much to the forum these past few weeks. I have been maddeningly busy with spring tasks at work, getting ready to move into our new home and preparing for retirement. Margareta and I sneak away occasionally for a short hike and sometimes I have the camera. More often than not, time is short and I don’t even bring my gear along. I expect things to be back to normal by September.
Until then, I hope to post sporadically and contribute when I can.
