Tim, great shot. There are many things to expore in this picture.
This place brings back great memories from the workshop I took from you two years ago. We had one day with clouds close to this. I stopped by the lookout last week on the way home from Little Rock. It is always worth the detour.

I'd love to see this place some day. It looks like a place that can summon up a spiritual experience under the right conditions. Really wonderful shot Tim!
Hey Tom, I think this was shot during the workshop you went to - it is several bracketed shots (five or six different exposures) sent through the "Bracketeer" program (Mac only). We sure had some amazing clouds that morning, and I've have never seen it like that since. Four or five of the images in the new landscape book were shot at that location. It is certainly one of the magical spots in the state, or the country for that matter.
My first trip to Petit Jean was a disaster :) I had never been and was following the route on my Garmin which was a joke. It was the most dramatic sunrise I had ever seen and I was in the middle of nowhere trying to get there. Needless to say dramatic sunrises come once in a blue moon and I got nothing the other two times I have been there.
Boy I hear ya about Garmin directions (or any of the nav units - I have three or four of them) - they work pretty well if you already know where you are going and have a map too!
Speaking of a blue moon, we just did the layout for my new 2009 Arkansas calendar and discovered the next one will be on December 31, 2009. Seems like just a few years ago we were having blue moons several times a year. But I guess that only happens, well, only once in a blue moon!
Hey Gale, it was both - there was a sea of clouds/fog covering the valley floor, and clouds up higher - the sun was sort of rising from one into the other. We were right in the middle with clear air. We had a five-star gourmet breakfast waiting for us back at the Rockefeller Center, but I don't think anyone minded hanging around awhile at this spot.
Ah ha! Bracketeer, eh...I've wondered for years how you do such a great job blending exposures. Almost makes me want to go out and buy a Mac. If I didn't have so much money tied-up in PC stuff (like CS3), I might give the thought a lot more serious consideration. Could I use the same monitor? The slide show program you use is Mac-only too, if I remember correctly...
Stunning, image, Tim.

Bill,
Adobe will let you transfer to Mac for a very small fee.
Tim,
Very nice photo, wish we had clouds like this on the workshop we attended there.
Actually Bracketeer has only been on the market for a few months - I've never used any sort of HDR software before, at least not that I would show anyone! (results have always been really bad) Many monitors are Mac-compatible, but if yours is more than a couple of years old you probably need a new one anyway. Hey Larry - I just dumped my much beloved 30" Cinema display for an HP 30" 3090 display - a very nice unit. And yes, you can switch CS3 platforms now for only the cost of the CD. There are some great slide programs on the PC side of things, but Macs have always been lacking, until PhotoMagico came along.

I love the peaceful light in this image.
