Painted Hills in September

I was wondering what the Painted Hills area was like for photo ops and weather in Mid September? Taking my vacation then and trying to figure out what to do.

The weather should be clear as are most September days in Central Oregon. I would think that it would be as good a time as any. Of course you want nice skies but you have to get lucky.
