Blue Winged Teal
One of my favorite waterfowl, I came across a pair of Blue-winged Teal at the Ridgefield NWR yesterday. You don't often see these guys and I was lucky enough to catch him in setting sunlight. The white tail area was blown out and so gone over with PS burn tool. This is 75% FF

Comments and suggestions welcome

Very nice shot, Craig. Great refelction to boot! At this size, the work on the blown area isn't very noticeable. This might benefit from some sharpening; the feathers look a scoche soft.

Does the 40D have a histogram? That would alert you to the blow area right away giving you a chance to adjust exposure.

Thanks for your comments Rick. It's hard to tell from this size but the feather detail is quite good full size. I recently purchased the 40D and it does have a histogram which I will get familiar with and start using. I appreciate that suggestion very much.

Hi Darren, thanks for the comments on image, also for noticing one of my prints in the SW WA Hosp. That was purchased by a Vancouver shop handling a decorating contract for them. By the way, I've been admiring your postings.... especially the Gorge images!
