Looking for some comments. I've been using the EFS 17-85 IS on a 40D and before that an XTi for some time now and have been very happy with it. I plan no going to a full frame at some point and decided to build up some compatible glass now to make it possible to get just the body (when the 5D replacement shows up). I picked up the EF 24-105L a few days ago based on reviews I've read and took some test shots with both.

Now for my question. Admittedly I only took a few test shots, but I really don't see much difference in the IQ between the two.

Has anyone make a similar comparison, and if so I'd love to hear your comments.

Thanks,
Carson

Generally you don't a whole lot of difference between image quality on lenses, unless you are using a tripod. The big difference is the lens speed and with that you can quickly discover the difference.

That's true, but the lens speed doesn't really do a lot for me, I shoot mostly landscape and some travel and 99% of the time I do use a tripod so a longer shutter time doesn't affect me very much.

The build and image quality is superior on the 24-105L. You really can't compare them until you get your full frame camera, then if you compare the 17-85 on the 40d vs the 24-105 on a full frame camera, the difference will be obvious, especially when you make prints.
