Often the best time to shoot a moonrise is the day before the full moon when the moon is higher in the sky at sunset - you get daylight on the landscape that way instead of just a dark horizon. This is especially true around here due to the hills - the moon shows up late on the day of a full moon since it has to climb up over the hills first (by that time the sun has already set). Same deal for moonsets - they are best the day after full moon when the moon is higher up in the sky, which around here puts it just above the hills.

I keep asking the wife to stop by the Jolly Roger Marina so I can shoot some photos on our trips past there on our way to Petit Jean, but we never do. I'm glad someone did!

All you need to do is stop on the highway right where you see this scene - there is a paved access road (gated) that takes you out into the cove and directly across from the marina. It was almost as if they made it just for photographers! And while you are there you might also pick up one of about 20 very used BBQ grills that are sitting around....

I would never have guessed that this was shot in Arkansas! The square crop and the positioning of the horizon line work well here. Another great photo Tim.
