Wheatear parents?
These are the parents of the fledgling I posted yesterday. At least I think they are. The female is definitely the mother but can anyone tell me is the male likely to be the father, ie; does the male share the parent duties with the female? I never actually saw the male with the chick but he was in the immediate area all the time.
Techs as with previous post and again both these images are quite big crops.

And the male

Don't know the answer for certain Robert, but it sounds likely i guess.

Nice shots though, and with a touch of noise ninja etc, they will compliment the youngster shot nicely :toast:

Hi Robert,

Nice pictures! The second one looks like its also a female, certainly it doesn't have much of a black mask. Male wheatears do share chick feeding duties with the female, although they seem to faff about a bit sometimes! Wheatear nests can be very close together, so it might be that these are two females from adjacent territories.

Thanks for the info Adam. Just proves my poor bird ID / knowledge. I was certain the second bird was a male.

Hi Robert,
Can't help with your question but it's a fine pair of portraits. :toast:

Nice pics.
In my experience the male always does the least of the feeding with these birds. Having said that they sometimes go in spurts and spasms. As Adam says the nests can be very close and I am sure parental duties can get a bit mixed up at times.
