Okay, let's see if this image will generate a discussion.
Taken two weeks ago at the beach just before sunset (8:51 p.m.), I decided to play a little with water/sand shots. I liked what the sun was doing to the colors of the sand and the water. What do you think..does it work...or does it need something more?

Toni, Having never really done anything similar, I can't give tech advice, however, I do like what you were attempting. With the water looking like crumpled gold foil and the sand so dark, it is a nice contrast. I just noticed as I scroll down to this comment box and the pic rises, I like it more as the dark portion of water in UL gets cropped off my monitor. Do you have any from a lower vantage point?
Looks like a nice evening and a good way to spend it is w/a camera. BP
I personally think it's a very nice image, though I am admittedly attracted to intimate scenes in general. The repeating diagonal lines create a pleasing visual rhythm, and the light is excellent and ultimately conducive to the desired effect. My only critique is that I'd like to see a bit of the top cropped. For some reason, it feels more harmonious/balanced to me when doing so. Excellent work Toni!
I've tried similar photos, but haven't had as much luck getting the golden color that you got, so I'm jealous. The only thing different that I try to do is to make the water line work the full diagonal, if that makes sense.

I really like the image. Who wouldn't like gold on gold? But my eye is pulled toward the dark area in the upper left. Maybe Joel's crop suggestion would remedy that.

Thanks everyone! I did wonder about the ULC and whether or not it should be cropped. You've all confirmed my thoughts!

I like the repost very much, Toni. I wonder what something like this would look like at 1 sec or more? Might be tough to get under the conditions, but worth a try?

Might be worth a try, Chuck. I normally don't take my tripod to the beach (I prefer to hand hold when possible!), but I'm betting it would be worthwhile dragging it down there for a slow shutter speed.
