I'm planning to be in Ouray for 3 days in early July was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of places to shoot around that area. I'm always intersted in shooing: waterfalls & lakes. Thanks in advance.

Woods lake is 30 minutes west.
Crystal Mill if you have 4WD.

Willys,

There was another thread about this just a few days ago. So you might scan down to see what that had listed.

Crystal Mill is not exactly in the Ouray area. Plan on several hours drive to reach it and to spend most of the day driving. Also, the road from Crested Butte to Crystal (Schofield Pass) may not open at all this year, so you'll have to go around to the Marble side.

You'll also be a bit early for wildflowers in some of the more famous area. Also, some of the 4WD jeep trails may not yet be open due to the heavier than normal snowfall. That brings up another question. Will you have 4WD and do you have experience driving steep and high altitude jeep trails? If so, there may be even more options for you to explore.

Back on topic, Bullion King Lake in Porphyry Basin, Ice Lakes are both interesting even without wildflowers. Molas Pass has some beautiful views at sunset. Mt Sneffels is always interesting to shoot from Hwy 62 or various roads in that area. Blue Lakes is an awesome area to hike through. The above mentioned Yankee Boy Basin is also quite popular.

There are two major waterfalls in Ouray. The west side of town has box canyon falls, which is sorta a waterfall in a slot canyon. I can't remember the name of the fall on the east side of town, but its more of a Yosemite type waterfall, coming over a big open cliff. Also, there is Bridalveil falls in Telluride, not far away. And there are lots of smaller waterfalls in side canyons throughout the area.
