Evening (repost of earlier shot in b/w)
Mt. Rainier from around the Skokomish river area. I just like the mood, for the mood i was in. Cliff

Is it just my monitor or are all these elements extremely faint? I almost can't see them. Maybe the original has more visible elements.

Then again maybe the original doesnt and your monitor is fine and your eyes are fine. Captured as is. So now you can critique it for what you were expecting and not for what it is. Cliff

You must have been feeling blue for sure! I personally would like to see a little more detail of the mountain...my eyes are really straining to find the center of interest.

not quite enough here to keep my attention......I like the idea of what you were going for!

Ok Ciff,

Thanks, I thought I was going blind or something.LOL... I tend to agree with Jack regarding wanting to see a bit more detail. But if you are going for a mood shot that is cool. I have done similar things in the pre dawn hours. And although out of the norm, if there is such a thing, I think these types of shots can be very effective for portraiting a mood. I think the trickiest part for me is portraiting the mood while still drawing the viewer in to the subject of interest. If you increase contrast or exposure too much then the mood is lost. But if things are too vague then interest is lost.

IMO this could use a little more contrast/levels and possibly saturation to draw the viewer in. But I would say go light on those elements while trying to maintain your vision - these can sometimes be the most challenging types of images to convey.

Here is an example of one of mine which some have critiqued as too dark but which I also feel conveys a mood I experienced waiting for sunrise at the Bells a couple of Falls ago:

I like the BW much better, the first shot is to faint for my tastes as well. The lenticular clouds are very cool in the BW.
