Hey everyone,

I am starting this thread so you can introduce yourself. Include a photo if you like, so everyone can put a name to a face.

I had an interest in photography right after high school, but with daily live, career and family I didn’t have the time to pursue the interest until a few years ago.
I stated walking a nearby nature trail and found it to be very therapeutic. The more time I spent outdoors I decided that I wanted to photograph what I was seeing on my walks.
I enjoy macro and close up photography the most, mostly flora, but anything that has nice patterns or textures. I also enjoy photographing avian, architecture, still life, travel and nature. Just about anything that catches my eye.

David, It seems you've thrown yourself under the bus on this one, so I'll bite. I guess it's true that most photographers don't particularly like being the target of a camera. I have grown up outdoors; as a child I was much more likely to be outdoors than playing video games or watching TV like most of my generation. About six years ago, I decided to start carrying a camera with me. I had spent many days and nights floating and hiking around the Buffalo before I ever ventured in with a camera. I immediately fell in love with the art, bought some of Tim's books, and started my own journey as a photographer. Though there are many outdoor places I enjoy, I can say without hesitation that there is no place I hold more dear than the upper Buffalo. And if I had to live the movie Groundhog Day, I think I'd want to spend my days floating from Ponca to Kyle's Landing. I have not found, nor can I imagine, a more beautiful stretch of river anywhere.

Hey Dominic, greetings! I was beginning to think I'd scared everyone off.

Hello,
I don't have an appropriate photo, so only a little background.

Outdoors has always been my preferred "living room", but only recently (last 4-5 years) have I gotten into photography. I finally bit the bullet and have upgraded to a dslr and really started learning the "correct" way.

I live in Texas and sorry Dominic I would have to disagree  with the most beautiful place to be!

As a newbie I can't say what my favorite subject matter is, except that at the moment it is birds and mammals (that tend to be very far away).

Currently saving for additional lenses, both macro, all around and zoom. Just received my new tripod (Manfrotto 055XPROB), glad I don't plan on hiking far with it!

I have looked at photos taken by ya'll, and will wait a while to post any of mine! :frown:

So Hi :wavey: :wavey: from Texas,
Sharon

Hi everyone.....I have been a lurker on Central States and the Colorado forums. Though not a "full" member yet I still enjoy reading about all of your adventures.

I live in Newton,Ks. and have enjoyed photography for at least 6 yrs or so. I just recently had my house broken into and my two Canon Digital SLR's stolen (20D and 40D). Just got them replaced thanks to great insurance. (40D and 50D).

I enjoy all things outside from macro to landscapes and will continue learning from all of you.

Hope it is okay to chime in here. :wavey:

Welcome to CSNP Sharon and Amanda! We encourage you to post and comment as often as possible to one of the best regional forums on NPN. Amanda, sorry to hear about your home break-in (it creates such a feeling of violation) but it sounds like your insurance came through in spades ... 40 & 50D's! We will be expecting to see some of the images captured with those new bodies asap.

Again welcome to CSNP ... we look forward to seeing some posts from Texas and Kansas! :wavey:

Welcome Sharon, Welcome Amanda. This is a really great place to share, learn and grow in ones photography. I have been participating here less than a year myself and can say positively it is one of the best choices I have made. The more a person puts in the more they can get out.
I look forward to your contributions.

Hello everyone,
Just an old coot from SW MO enjoying the Nikon digital age. Photo is of me taken by a friend during a recent visit to Ponca. Enjoy birding and other wildlife, occasional scenic and macro.

Nice to meet you Larry. I'll bet your arms get tired holding that rig if you get into any serious rapid firing shooting conditions!

Howdy Larry!

Hello everyone,

The only photo I have of myself is this silhouette (like most photographers, I do not like being in front of the camera!), so I guess you can put an "outline" to the name.

I grew up hunting and fishing in western Kansas and love being outside. While in college I didn't really have the opportunity to do much hunting so I decided to get a camera and "hunt" for photographs. I was hooked after my first click of the shutter.

I'm located in Manhattan, KS and love photographing the Flint Hills and exploring the state. So many people think of Kansas as a flat, ugly place, which simply isn't true. I've been shooting since around 1995 and recently put up a webpage and gotten more serious about the business side of things. I also teach a photography and digital darkroom class at a community education program here in Manhattan.

I do mostly landscape shots and I'm looking forward to learning new things and improving my work.

Scott

Welcome Scott! I've been meaning to email you since noticing on a recent post that you were from Kansas. We are pleased to have you hear at CSNP and look forward to seeing your work. It's good to know that there is another photographer in my neck of the woods. The Kansas contingent on CSNP is starting to grow. Welcome aboard! :wavey:

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. The name is Ron, but most people call me Mac. I've visited this site several times and continue to be amazed at the beautiful work I see. Some very talented people on board. I shoot mostly nature and wildlife, to various degrees of success. Living in the Missouri Ozarks there are no shortages of subjects, just some severe limitations were the photographer is concerned. Anyway just wanted to say hello, and it will be a pleasure to visit with you all from time to time.

Mac,

I've been a member of NPN for seven or eight years and the Flora moderator for the past two. Participating on NPN has far and away been the most important factor in my development as a photographer. I'm really just an advanced amateur hoping to be a pro when I grow up. I was one of the original members of the now defunct Texas Nature Photographers. I never really did much with that group and apparently neither did many others. I thought for a long time that we Texans were just orphans until I came across the CSNP banner one day. I'm hoping to meet some of the folks here and get some insights into better landscape photography specifically. Right now flowers and butterflies are my forte. In my real life I'm an optometric physician practicing in a surgical ophthalmology practice in Houston and a part time Christian minister in the Texas prison system. My wife Christine is a master gardener and produces many of my subjects. We have a great arrangement; I buy 'em, she plants and grows 'em and I shoot 'em. I'm really glad to have found this group and hope to see some of you this spring flower hunting in Texas. >=))>

PS: My most recent self portrait with my 2 good photo friends, my Sony A700 and trusty Minolta 200mm macro. Can't leave home without them.

Hi, I put my introduction in a different thread, about the spring outing. My name is BJ and my husband is Thom. We have been into photography for a couple of years and love it. Sometimes I get thouroughly discussed with trying to learn the tech details, but I do enjoy being out shooting. We live in our RV and I work as a contract nurse for a 3 monthes at a time in different places in the country. Right now we're in deep south Texas, and if you're a birder it's a great place to be. But I'm ready to shoot something different now. :wavey:

Greetings! I've been a member of NPN for a little over a year and half and it's been the best thing I've EVER done for my photography (except for upgrading to a digital camera!) I've learned so much from the folks on the forums.

My favorite shooting subjects are flowers and Kansas landscapes. Like Scott Bean mentioned above, I think Kansas is totally misunderstood and really has a lot to offer, and since joining NPN I've tried to show the rest of the world what beauty can be found here. My real job is a paralegal at a law firm in Topeka, Kansas but like most of you, photography is my true passion. I love being outdoors and hiking, especially in the mountains. My husband's name is Mike, and he's an avid mountain biker and also does some trail running. We love to travel, and Colorado and Utah are our favorite places to wander around in.

This photo of me was taken by Bret Edge last May while my husband and I were vacationing in lovely Moab, Utah. I was so caught up in photographing Faux Falls that I didn't even notice he was taking my photo and only found out later after I got home and he e-mailed it to me. (I'd much rather be behind the lens than in front of it...) I met Bret in 2007 and it is through him that I found out about NPN.

I hope I can meet more of you in the near future, especially the growing Kansas contingent. :wavey:

Hi everyone. I have been lurking here for over three years and I feel like it is time to jump in and get my images "wet".;) I live in Jonesboro, AR..very close to Memphis,TN. Landscape is my real interest. I have been to one of Tim Ernsts' weekend workshops where I learned that he is a great teacher, I am a not so great learner, and Photoshop/Lightroom is truly a bewildering program. But I am slowly improving and am hopeful that all the freidnly folks here will nudge me along the way. I am a Canon shooter with a Rebel XT and recently a 40D to my name.

I have tried three times to attach an image but have unsuccessful so far. I'll keep hacking at it until I get it right!

Hi Bob and welcome to CSNP! Glad to hear you've made the plunge, we're looking forward to seeing some of your images. I'm beginning to think that the CSNP membership is just a Tim Ernst workshop alumni group!

Well I guess it's only right that I jump on the bandwagon and introduce myself to everyone "offically". I'm Karla Hall, aka wife of Mike Hall, also an NPN member. I was honored to meet some of you at the Spring gathering several weeks ago...
Just a little background on me, I have been shooting for 25+ years. I have worked in the "photo" business for 23 years. I started at Process One in Fayetteville when I was going to school at U of A. Mike and I were married and moved to Fort Smith and transferred to Process One Fort Smith in 87. I worked there until 1999, having worked every facet of the business from clerk, lab tech, photographer, studio manager and manager. After leaving Process One, I did portrait work in Fort Smith until Mike's work took us to Conway in 2001. Always shooting, mostly for fun..I got the bug again and ended up taking a part time job at Fast Foto Conway, just for fun (I love to print). That has evolved in to a full time job and although I like it a lot, I would still rather work part time so I can have more time to play!
Photography is something that has taken hold of me...I can't go very long without it. I love to shoot! It's a great thing to be able to share my love for the art with my husband. We have sooo much fun getting out there and shooting and just loving nature. This forum is just an extension of it. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. Any and all comments are appreciated...Don't be afraid to speak your mind!

I enjoy this forum and hope that I can contribute from my own experience.

I started back in the early 80's supporting my hobby by mowing yards. I spent all my money on film and the occasional purchase of a lense. I lived on Mt Nebo and explored it from top to bottom with my Pentax k1000 in tow.

1985, I turned that hobby into a proffession on the video side. I worked at television station KHBS/KHOG for 16 years. Most of that time as the chief photographer. Some hightlights: OK City bombing, Bill Clinton's nomination at the Democratic convention in NYC 1991, Clinton's presidential election(both), Clinton's inaguration in DC. Others include trips to Honduras, Italy, and Mexico City. There are thousands of memories good and bad.

In 2001, I gave up the video camera and took on another adventure. I took that experience to a higher level that I still maintain to this day. I operate a television satellite truck for the big three networks and the cable networks. I enjoy working with the best of the best! I've covered 911 from the Pentagon and later from Camp David. I continue to work with the White House press corps anytime the President is within 10 hour drive. I have broadcast 25 presidential events (speeches) and about 15 trips as the Crawford Texas uplink truck. I have covered most of the tornado disasters and have been thru 19 hurricanes. Half of the hurricanes as the Weather Channel truck. Katrina being the worst!

Typical week is to work for CNN and then later in the week work for ESPN. I'm on call seven days a week 24/7.

When I'm home, you can usually find me hiking with my wife or finding something to do with my daughters. Nowdays, I have a lot of free time waiting for the next gig and I try to get out of the house toting the camera. I love photography and I'm lucky to have a wife that shares that love! She also has more than twenty years behind the lense. I hear it alll the time that I am lucky to have a wife that shares my interest. I am lucky!
