I just picked up the new xsi and have some image issues.

I took 30 shots...all in "P" and all in same conditions. First three accurate... next 27 are all pink. The tone is pink. Like a pink filter.

Looking into this I have found the following in my case.

On picasa and photoshop elements the images have this pink issue.

If I use the raw processing software that came with the xsi there is no pink cast issue.

I have checked for updates to picasa, photoshop, and photoshop elements but none exist.

I have read where others have taken the camera back and not experienced the issue. I don't think it is a camera issue though.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

My first thought is that it is a white balance issue. When you view the shots in the RAW converter, what is the WB setting? If you shoot with the White Balance set specifically to the condition that you are shooting in, do you still see this issue?

I am guessing that the reason that you do not see the issue in the the RAW converter is that the converter is auto correcting the white balance.

I don't think it is white balance though.

As photoshop elements will not even import the files off the card. Picasa 2 will import them but they are pink.

The canon processor opens them and they are as I saw them on the review window.

Lloyd, it sounds to me like a software compatibility issue. Elements won't import them almost certainly because it doesn't have the newest camera RAW plug-in for the XSi, and that may be the culprit with the pink cast, too. When enough new camera designs come out, Adobe updates its camera RAW plug-in periodically so PS and Elements can recognize and process camera RAW files from the newest cameras.

If you have the latest version of Elements you should be able to download the latest RAW plug-in from adobe.com for free and install it per the directions you'll find there. It's Camera RAW 4.4.1, and it covers the XSi. You can find it by looking at the "latest updates" category here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads.

Try downloading and installing that and see if the problem goes away. After doing so, you should be able to import the RAW files using Elements and covert them from RAW to whatever form you want as well, allowing you to skip the step of using the Canon DPP software for conversion.

I'd guess its on the software side too.

Try the Canon RAW converter (DPP). I'm guessing that it will work for your camera. If DPP won't convert the file correctly then I'd check with Canon for solutions.

Thanks everyone. It appears the problem is fixed via the download from adobe.

Thanks Steve for pointing me in that direction.

I truly appreciate it.

Pink overcast isn't quite my color.

No prob, Lloyd. Looks like you're good to go. Have fun with the new camera, now that you're confident the only pink in the image will be the pink you want there.
