Taken last week on a miserable rainy day on Burra Isle, Shetland.

By no means perfect a image but never been that close to a Curlew before, just a shame the sun was hiding behind thick cloud!

20D
400 5.6L
ISO 400

Thanks to Danny G for a few tips on locations to try, most helpful.

Cheers

Gavin

Hi Gavin,

Lovely shot, I think the balance between foreground, horizon and sky work very well here. It does look a bit warm on my monitor though, and maybe could do with the wb adjusting a bit.

Cheers,

Dan.

Gavin, this image works well for me albeit a little warm on my monitor to, but I would be very pleased to get a shot anywhere near it. I like the environment style and really sets off the bird in this presentation.

Kind regards,

Brett. :toast:

A bit "warm" and a tad noisy too, but a good shot none the less.

Lovely enviro Gavin, and great to catch the bird calling :toast:

Like this a lot, the fact that it is calling really takes the image up a notch.... is what people are seeing as noise really rain?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

It was raining at the time so that may well be the "noise". The warmth is my own doing I tend to prefer upping the WB to the warmer side of things but may well have over cooked it a notch this time.

Great to catch it with the trademark bill open - really emphasises the subject. Perhaps the grasses are a little too yellow

I like the composition and the open beak is great. I can almost hear him calling  I'm not keen on the warm WB though. I think a cooler WB would better convey the bad weather.

I like the open beak and the way the bird is set against the distant land, with the skyline above the bird.
A good low viewpoint too.

Nice enviro shot indeed - pays to stick at it in the rain sometimes!

Like the look of this Gavin. Unlike some I like the warmness and after all it could just have well have been a sunshine shower but i suspect not.

I've stepped down the WB to a more natural level, which I think might be the right decision.

Thanks for all the comments.
