First day of summer (with repost)
I always like to go somewhere at Summer Solstice to celebrate the days of longest sunlight. This year I went back to a couple of my favorite places in western Kansas, Big Basin and Clark County Lake.

This was taken before it got too hot because as you can see from Rob and my pictures, there is not a tree in sight.

Thanks for looking and for any comments/suggestions.

Ken, I like the side lighting you have here, especially on the rocks in the foreground. The hillside shadow sets them off nicely. Well done!

A most pleasant scene, Ken - easy to see why it's one of your favorite places. The soft green color of the grass is really nice, although there does seem to be a slight green cast to the sky. Beautifully composed!

Nice lighting Ken, I agree with William that there seems to be a greenish cast. I didn't go down onto the floor of the basin this trip. How late were you at the lake? I almost went there after leaving the Basin.

Very nice Ken. Were you able to resist the urge to climb up to that plateau in the upper right? It seems like the view would be fantastic from there. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone. I'll be the first to admit that color managment is something I don't know much about. The color on the picture posted doesn't look anything like the color that I processed. I was using sRGB throughout but am very dissappointed at the posted results. I dont' remember having that kind of color problem in other posts or online galleries.

I have downloaded the set of video tutorials on color management Radient Vista http://www.radiantvista.com/tutorials but haven't taken the time to really look at them yet. I guess I have some studying to do.

Ken, I really like this shot and the composition was handled with expert care. I like how the fg rocks don't intersect the shadow lines and yet are illuminated by the sun. I like the "S" curves of shadow & hills and the vast sense of space. Very nice indeed.

A little reprocessing with your soon to be new found color management and this one will sing! :toast:

I think I found part of my problem with color in my posts. I hope this looks a little better.

Rob, I was actually at Clark Lake overnight. There are some great overlooks above the lake for sunset and sunrise. I would also like to get permission from the adjacent land owners to explore some enticing possibilities nearby to the lake. Does anyone have suggestions how to go about getting such permission or even finding out who the land owners are? I've thought about just knocking on doors or checking with the local farm bureau.

John, that plateau isn't really as far away or as high as it looks but you're right, it does have a great view. I actually saw a hawk soaring below me.

Do I hear a melody?
