Great shot Guy, it's nice and sharp, and the smooth background really allows the subject to shine :toast:

Cheers,

Dan.

Great detail
Are you using ext tubes or is this a crop as it seems close in for a 180mm ?

Hello Nick.

Thanks for your comment.

I have cropped this by about 20%. I still have 8m pixels from the 40Ds 10m pixels.

The 180mm will give 1/1 life size but on a camera with a 1.6 cropped sensor you get a good 1/ 1/2 life size. So you should be able to get this close or very near to it if I had'nt cropped.

Please correct me if I am wrong about this.

Looks very good Guy :toast:

These males are much harder to get a decent image out of than most folk imagine aren't they  :wavey:

That's what I call sharp macro. Well I'll just have to keep trying harder!

Hi a nice image, but 1:1 is 1:1 even on a crop camera, sensor size has no effect on magnification.

There's a practical difference between actual magnification (more technical) and effective magnification (more practical), which I think is what Guy was getting at - we didn't start printing things smaller when we switched to cropped sensors!

Great shot Guy, a species I've yet to track down. Would liked to have seen it in portrait format maybe.

That's amazing detail - can see the texture of the eye surface!
