Here's another one from Big Basin. I hope you all aren't getting tired of that place.
I was on top of the rocks on the north rim of the basin when I heard this guy screetching behind me. He was actually soaring back and forth right below me. It's not often that one can see a hawk from above here in vertically challanged Kansas.
I took this with a 200mm manual lens.
Thanks for looking.

Wonderful capture Ken. Looks nice and sharp, and thats not easy to do on the fly. I love watching these magnificent raptors as they spread their wings and soar with such ease. You got a wonderful position to show its beauty. You have lots of room to crop some on it. I would be tempted to tighten in some on it and make it more prominent in the scene. Great to see non the less.
Fine work to get such a sharp image, Ken. I so enjoy watching these birds circle around in the sky hunting for thermals this time of year. Ahhh...what a life.
Still looks a tad green.

I really like the perspective here Ken, a unique look at the red tail in flight. What little avain photography I've tried has given me a new respect for anyone who can shoot a bird in flight well. Thanks for sharing!
