Skimmer in evening sunlight
Here's a female black-tailed skimmer taken one evening recently.

Canon 400D with Sigma 150mm, f9, 1/200 sec, ISO 400, tripod.

All C+C appreciated.

Nice light perch Matt, she looks well on it :wavey:

Nice BG and plenty of detail too - just a pity she'd got her wings forward across her face, but it can't be helped

My next species once I've finished these damned WFDs - nice image :wavey: :wavey:

Nice one Matt,

Agree with Andy, regarding the wings, but nice to see a variety of poses etc!!

A good shot and nice and sharp from face to tip of abdomen.

That's the way they are !
Why do some pose like this and others like the Libs keep the wings open and flat. Now there's three years work !!

thanks very much for the comments.

I agree it would be nicer if the wing wasn't blocking the eye but changing my angle meant it impossible to get the 'tail' in focus. Sometimes you can't have it all

The wings don't bother me at all but the overall colour & bg don't quite work for me. You just can't please everyone  I haven't shot this species yet, so this is just jealous nit!

Crisp sharp image. Light looks to be helping pick out all the detail

Hello Matt.

Looks good to me, and I like how we can still see the detail through the wings, so for me theres no problems with the wings. The lights very nice as well. :wavey:

I like the simple composition here with just the single grasshead
