I am in the process of upgrading my computer system and want to get a large monitor. My first choice is the Dell 30" (3007WFP-HC) and following that, the Dell 24" (2408WFP). If anyone here has used either of them, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I am specially interested in knowing how easy/hard it is to get them caliberated.

Thanks.

First I am not a computer expert. I use the dell ultrasharps in my digital imaging but I use a 24 and a 20 inch. I chose to get a top video/graphics card that allows me to use both w/digital. Caliberation is not a problem with proper cal equipment. I find two monitors easier to work with than one large one in my workflow. I do use Datacolor for color management.

I have the Dell 24" and I love it. It took a while for me to get it properly calibrated. I had to replace my build in VGA with a plugin DVI card. The color is now very accurate.

I recently purchased a 22" Dell Ultrasharp after receiving several recomendations for it from this forum and am extremely pleased with it. No problem with calibration.

Just purchased a MacBook Pro 17" with HiRes screen 1920 x1200 & wanted add'l large monitor. First considered the Apple Cinema 24 or 30, I would totally trust color of the Apple. Then considered the 30" Dell. Read some conflicting reports in their performance due to no standardized components. But, needed sound & several HDTV features for slideshows & customer sales. Would have to add TV output on computer & speakers. So after reviewing about 50 sets, learned about the 1080p screen resolution compared to the usual 720p. I found a 40" Samsung (LN40A550) ($1150 more or less) that has computer interface & USB. The Samsung lineup of A550, A650, & A750 in 37" - 52" (maybe larger) are designed for multimedia. The 650 & 750 have a few more features but cost more. As a monitor, use cinema screen mode on HDTV, so the photography is very analog looking, text is more readable. High color & contrast are nice for games & some programs, but make photos look overblown, ove-contrasty & grainy. I use dual monitors with the MacBook Pro, which immediately found the Samsung. Both computer screen & Samsung are almost identical in color & density. Running in (external) screen mode the TV doesn't receive broadcast. But open PIP (picture in Picture mode) & then select speaker then you have a TV window to watch or listen while working. Wonderful things happening in hi-tech.

More on HDTV for monitor, Another feature. Plug a card reader in USB & Samsung will bring up a program for viewing & sorting images. Select music source & show slideshow. Haven't even tried 'all' the goodies yet. Didn't find any other brand that had all these features. Plasma could have better image, but choose LCD over Plasma if you will be transporting the screen very often.

One more: I would not choose large HDTV for the ONLY monitor on a desktop system. Will want finer resolution for some editiing.

Its good to hear a positive report on the Dell 22" and 24" here. Based on some outside research I have finally decided to go with the Dell 30". Thanks to all who responded.

Anil,

Let us know what you think of it, once you have had time to put it through its paces.
