Oystercatcher
Again, in the pursuit of things flying against anything other than sky.

What was amusing is this bird normally calls to other OC's in a attempt to gang up and mob an intruder, however in this instance the other OC's (3 of them and not so far away) just sat there and looked. The chicks where about 50 meters away. Maybe this one just needed the excerise.

It's the bird equivelant of a white cat in a coal shed and would need very overcaset light to hold all the whites. As it happens the predominant visable colour of this bird is black so I exposed to keep the detail in the blacks and the whites fell where they did.

300mm/HH
2000'/F2.8/200ASA
normal PS (very little sharpening as you don't need it with a 300mm F2.8) and 80% of full frame (17M)

Tom

What a great flight shot still my prefered shots and to cap it all a black and white subject do they come with any more difficulties?

I notice your F2.8 so maybe I should try lower settings I tend to try and emulate others success but it seldom works,

Thanks for sharing details.

I like this, I can almost hear the little beggar calling (oops I can, there's some on the beach outside).

Looks to be tremendous details in the blacks on the top of the bird, and not a lot in them under it. Whites look fine and have plenty detail in them too.

Are you enabling Highlight Tone Priority?

Hi Tom,
the bird stands out very fine from the BG in color and sharpness.
Perfect exposure. I like the open beak.
Greetings,
Bertl

This is great Tom :toast:

Looks like you managed the best of both worlds........getting plenty of white/black detail!!

Super bg, and a fine position with open beak into the bargain

Can't ask for anything more, in a flight shot of this bird :toast: :toast:

The comp really give the impression of a bird coming in on the turn and hard.
I like it. Gamma up 10 maybe ? or my steam monitor ?

Bit of an object lesson in "how to do the job right" here Tom :toast:

The BG isn't 100% for me - be interesting to see the same shot with the 400 f2.8 - but exposure and focus are both 'blinding'.

Very nice image Tom :wavey: :wavey:
