The other weekend I drove up to Ute Pass to photograph the sunrise on the Gore Range. The skies were too clear to generate much color. The most color I had was moments before the sun broke the horizon. I had to stack two GND just to get what little color there was in the sky to show up. I cropped this into a panoramic format. The pine beetle infestation has devastated this area and this version seems to minimize the evidence of it somewhat.

Nikon D200, 28-105mm lens, 3-stop & 2-stop soft step GNDs

Doug...I like this image very much. I like the layers of trees and the point of view you have selected... nice earth's shadow too... well captured and you have managed to avoid the GND lines.... regards, Rajeev :toast: :toast:

I like the pastels. Interesting shot for me since i was there over the winter, couldnt see all the brown back then.

Wow - "devestation" is right. And if that's not bad enough, once a fire starts around there.... poof. :frown:

Actually, as far as the forest is concerned, a fire is probably the best thing that could happen to it...

Wow is right Rick. I agree about the fire too, it's probably the only way the area will be cleared of all those dead trees and allow it to regenerate.

Too bad since this was such a beautiful area :frown:
