Does anyone know the wildflower and snow (elevation) conditions around Steamboat Springs? Notably, the road/hiking path from Muddy Pass to Rabbit Ears? I will be there July 5-19.

Hey Patrick, talked to my daughter and son-in-law tonight that live in Steamboat and they said there is still a lot of snow up high but wildflowers are beginning to show in the lower elevations. It looks like the area we shot around Rabbit Ears two years ago may still have some snow. I plan on spending some time in the Flattops this year.

Looks like I will be out there from July 10-14 this year. Maybe we can hook up one day?

I just got back from a family camping weekend at Steamboat Lake. The whole Yampa valley is incredibly green right now - absolutely beautiful. There were lots and lots of wildflowers blooming around Steamboat Lake - arnica (fields full), lupine, larkspur. HTH.

Patrick,

I have lived in Steamboat for over 30 years and photographed flowers over the years, many of which are in my book. For a preview, go to http://www.rodhanna.com/book.php. Anyway, my sense is that because of the record snowfall on the Park Range this winter, the flowers are going to be a little later than usual. Having said that, July 10 to the end of the month should yield good results between Rabbit Ears Pass, Buffalo Pass, and the Flat Tops. And, it should be one of the best---right now there's all kinds of places at lower elevations where the Mules Ears are out in all their yellow glory. Good shooting...
