Hi folks,

I'm hoping to make a 5-day trip to CO in September, and perhaps another to zion in Novemeber. I was wondering what would be the ideal time to visit either of these places? I realize it varies from year to year, but I'm just trying to get a ball-park estimate. For fall in the Elk Mountains/San Juans, I think mid-september is about the right time? And for Zion canyon it is first/second week of November?

On a normal year - Elk Mts. - Spt. 22-29; San Juans - end of Sept. into October; Zion - first week in Nov. There is no such thing as a normal year.

Stick to the 1st week of November for Zion. 2nd week is usually too late to capture the best Maple colors, though the Cottonwoods will probably still be viable.
