I just got back from Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Both were beautiful, BUT the air and sky in the parks and central valley is really, really bad. I also have heard the east side and Reno is getting its share of smoke, too. If you want the big landscape in the Sierra, save the gas and stay home until the air clears out a bit.
Based on prelim reports we could have these kinds of conditions all summer. Hope not, but.....
Harley, thanks for sharing your observations from a photographer's perspective. From all accounts on the news broadcasts it looks really brutal up there with the fires and overall resulting air quality.
The smoke is still pretty bad in the foothills north of Yosemite, but is improving a little. I was talking with a doctor yesterday who said that when the visibility is down to two miles, we are breathing the equivalent (in smoke) of a pack a day of cigarettes. Yikes!
Pray for rain!
We could all do a raindance, but the outcome would depend greatly on its timing.

Looking forward to seeing some of those images. Hope you captured some good ones.
