I don't know if the IN highway department is responsible, or local garden clubs, but regardless, it was pure pleasure to see wildflowers growing alongside US 31 on my drive down to Cincinnati and back this past weekend! Some areas, as this image shows, had large patches of bright yellow flowers mixed with a few purple Coneflowers and Cosmos, while in other places there were small yellow flowers on the sides of the median, stretching out for miles. One area just south of South Bend had a white Daisy mixture in the center of the median.
No, the image is not tilted...the highway was on a slight grade here. It was also quite windy yesterday on the return trip, as you can see by the slight blurring and bend of the foreground flowers.
If anyone can help me out with the ID of these yellow flowers, I would appreciate a little help. Am assuming they are some sort of Coneflower or Sunflower?
Toni, No help with the ID, I call everything like these a daisy. I,ve noticed alot of wildflowers here on Illinois roads also, I'm always in a hurry and never stop to smell (or shoot)the roses. I like your picture though and think now a whole series of this type could go to Man and Nature. Good job, BP
Bruce...too often I don't stop on my way down or back due to lack of time, unless there is something special such as the Redbuds this spring. I had left Cinci early in the morning yesterday and decided to take advantage of any and all photo ops while I could!
Joel..I never even noticed that was a Wal-Mart truck! That was a pure fluke only because I wanted some comps with a couple vehicles in the frame for stock use. Gee, do I now need a release from Wal-Mart for that?
Toni - I believe these flowers are Gloriosa Daisies. Do a Google search and you will find some matches with your picture; although they do come in several color patterns. I'm happy to see someone in Indiana trying to make a difference. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks, Denny, and you are correct. I just did a Google search and found them. I also looked at a few of my other images closeup and noticed that the different varieties were all right there within this scene, along with Black-Eyed Susans...all of them are in the same family.
Beautiful daisy patch, Toni. The contrast with the blue sky really works!

Chuck...the weather (blue skies, some clouds) was one of the best I have had on that drive, but could have done with less wind. I'm not complaining though!
