No Hover Bovver!! (for an Emperor)

Hello.

Whilst walking my dog on the usual walk across the road from where I live I came across this Emperor taking in the late afternoon heat and breeze. It looked happy, hanging out in this one corner of the farmers lagoon.

Whilst observing it through bino's I noticed that is was ' hanging ' in the breeze. It wasn't 'flying' - only the slightest movements of its wings to hold station. I've not seen dragons do this before. Is it common??

It was impressive.

At this point I swore in my head a good deal about not bringing my camera out. So, we headed back home at an advanced speed to get it and get back. Luckily the Emperor was still surveying his kingdom and I got some shots. I'd have prefered a more frontal angle but if this is all I get this Summer then I'll settle for it.

Have fun all.

Well caught. They often glide, so in a breeze it would 'hang'. More DOF still wouldn't get the wings sharp though, so no nits really.

A nice capture and well worth going back for. I've tried this a few times when out with bird kit, but never got anything as good as this.

very well captured, I've never managed this with an Emperor. An excellent shot.

Thats a goody... yes they will often hang in the breeze, (always too far away for images in my part of the country  \)
