I spent last week in Southern Ontario, relaxing and doing a bit of shooting. They've had a wet spring up there (haven't we all) and the wildflowers are in full splendor. I came across several species I had not seen before, including Wood Lilies.
When I returned home I learned that Wood Lilies are considered endangered in Ohio. (Apparently, if you pick the bloom, the plant dies.) I'm curious to find out how many of you find these beautiful flowers in your local area.
I've seen them on a fairly frequent basis in north-eastern Minnesota. They're a lovely flower. Nice capture here Chuck. What area of southern Ontario were you? Hanging around the great lakes by chance?
Thanks, Joel. North of Lake Ontario in the Kawartha Region. 30 km NE of Peterborough.

I don't ever recall seeing one of these in SW Michigan, Chuck. Great exposure on this Lily. The Kawartha area is beautiful..glad you had the chance to do some shooting there! I take it the bug spray was mandatory?
Chuck,
What makes this for me other than the obvious is how the pattern in the BG leaves parallel the petals of the flower. Looks like that Sigma is getting a workout!

PS--Did you shoot a vertical?(I had to ask)
Ah, Wood Lilies.. One of my favorites...I do a lot of flower shooting on an island in the Straits of Mackinac.. It hosts most of the endangered flowers of Michigan. I'll include a link to the Bois Blanc Island wildflowers album so you may get some identity help when you run across something unusual.. There are 9 pages and growing of the individual flowers that reside there.. My brother is on his second year of recording all the flowers and has had the assistants in figuring out what these beauties are with many reference books and a pro botanist.. I've followed along with him on his hunts and have most of the same flowers in my files.. I plan to do seasonal posters of them with identities in the future.. My brother wants to do a reference book.. It's amazing there are soooo many! We mostly see the big splashy ones like the wood lily but the tiny ones are there too if you look close enough..
We have both wood and Turk's cap lilies in our area, although the Turk's caps like a bit richer and less acidic soils, apparently, and can be found more frequently about 50 miles west of Ely.
