Hey all. I am planning on being in the Breckenridge area between Sept 5th and 12th. Does anyone have suggestions for things to photograph? I'm mainly interested in any wildlife. I'd also like to photograph some water like lakes or streams/rivers. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Debbie,

You'll be here late for wildflowers, so I'm not sure there is any meaningful advice about that.

Elk and Deer are probably going to be very unpredictable in that area. I've seen plenty, but not in the sorts of congregations that RMNP is known for. Perhaps the valley north of Dillon would be worth investigating, but I'm not sure.

Small mammals like Marmots and Pikas can be found above treeline. Squirells can be very entertaining at Emerald Point on Swan Mtn road.

IMO, the two best lake hikes in the Breck area are Mohawk Lakes and McCollough Gulch. Both are south of town on Hwy 9. Both offer excellent scenery, though you'll need a really early start for sunrise.

Actually I'll amend my statement about the lakes in the area. I think Wheeler is the most scenic, but it entails a difficult 4WD road to reach the lake and should only be undertaken by those with 4WD experience with rock ledges larger than 1.5 feet and steep climbs.
