Website Makeover

I launched my complete website makeover today, a project I began about two months ago. I never really liked the feel of my old site and while browsing the Rocky Mountain Nature Photographer's site, I found a fellow member that develops web sites for photographers. Jack Brauer has worked with me to come up with a site I really like. The administration is very user friendly, and even I figured it out with a little help from Jack!

Check it out http://www.tomkennonphotography.com and let me know what you think? Any feedback would be appreciated and if you would like me to include a link to your website, just email me with the information.

Tom,
I must say that I like the layout, and that you've got a pretty outstanding collection of photos! I kind of wish I could hop from gallery to gallery without going back to the galleries page, but that is only a small thing and not really a big deal. Great job on the rework.

One small note: your cable release is listed as a Canon RS-8043, and it should be RS-80N3. I may be the only person that would notice that, though.

Dominic, thanks for the feedback, I have corrected the cable release to RS-80N3.

Very nice website, Tom...some impressive work to go with it too.

One thing I noticed that is problematic on my website, is the cart page. I've never been able to figure out if there is a way to add shipping charges on the Paypal form. As it is now, it defaults to zero. Is there some way to do this on your website at the end during checkout? I noticed in one of the other photographers' sites (Jack Showalter), a flat shipping charge is added to each print ordered. If you order two 24x36 prints, the shipping is $70.00. (2 x $35) . I suppose it could be factored into the pricing and offer free shipping, but it would be a lot cleaner if you could do it during the checkout. Not only that, I rarely print at any "standard" size anymore, so the price list for an almost infinite number of sizes, media, framing and matting options would be next to impossible to do. I finally gave up and just made a general price list for canvas, color, and fine art paper for common sizes, and request that the customer email me for a quote.

And thanks for the link to my website! If you don't mind, I'd prefer just "Bill Dark" for the link text.

Bill, my site was designed by Jack Brauer, and he designed Dave Showalter's site also. I am sure they both have very similar administration options. I have the ability to add shipping individually to any size based on a specific amount. As you pointed out, if you decide the amount is $35, if two photos are ordered it is $35 x 2. There is also an option to discount at the same time and this may be the way to control the shipping charges. Right now I do not have this option turned on.

I have updated your link to "Bill Dark," I meant to send you an email and make sure the link was ok, sorry I did not do that in all the confusion of getting this finished.

Thanks for all the comments about the site from everyone.

Hey Ed, I just checked your recent blog, it looks like you had a great trip out west. I hope that was not your pickup in the pictures warning to be careful when four-wheeling!

Great new site, Tom. Just viewing the slideshow on the top page is a pleasure, and then it gets better as you browse the galleries. The design is clean and tasteful, and I'm glad for the amount of information in your captions. There are quite a few of your shots I've never seen before. As soon as I've got time I'm going to go through every single gallery.

Hi Tom congrats on the new website. As others have said it has a nice clean look and is easy to navigate. You have some nice new images I haven't seen also. The slideshow homepage is excellent.

Tom,

Just stopped by and enjoyed your website very much. I've always thought the clean, simple look does images much more justice. You've done very, very well!

Marc
