North Coast Seascape
This was taken on the last night of my recent trip up to the Northern California coast. I absolutely love the area.

Thanks. This is posted on ES&S as well.

17-35mm, f16, ISO 100, .4 sec, GND filter.

This is really nice, Richard. All the elements come together in a very pleasing way.

Very nice Richard! I really like the arrangement of the rocks and swirl of the water. It all comes together very harmoniously.

Great stuff Richard! I really like this composition from the rocks below the cliffs. As a CA native I feel like I have really been missing out in not visiting here yet! The first shot I saw of this area was in M&N last month by Marc Adamus with wild lupines in the foreground:

Did you happen to see any of the wildflowers while you were there? Apparently the lupines are more rare. But I have seen other wildflowers along the upper trail in other images.

Thanks guys. Yeah I saw Marc's shot, I don't know if that's really M&N though... There were some wild flowers like cow parsnip and some smaller purple flowers but no lupine.

I guess Marc just happened to time it right for capturing lupines on the cliffs above. I know when I drove the Oregon coast this May I saw a lot of lupines right down to the beach in many places. I thought - 'This kind of thing just doesn't happen in California.' Then I saw Marc's shot and realized it does. Maybe not as often and only in very select places. But it does. And Trinidad SP looks like a scene right out of the PNW, minus the foot prints of course.

Also you are right. I think Marc's shot actually appeared in ESS.

Well most of the coast was lined with yellow bush lupine if that counts, just not at this beach unfortunately.

Yes, that definately counts!
Did you take any shots of them by chance? It seems like it has been a good year for coastal wildflowers, at least to the north.
Also do you think you got any more keepers from Trinidad? Looking at this shot I would guess so. :toast:

Here's one from Samoa Dunes.

Most of my landscapes from Trinidad were similar save for the wave action because the light was only good for a few minutes. It was too harsh a few minutes before this.

I think that's not the 1st time someone posts on CANP photos of this beach. It's a good place to get stunning compositions.
For me this composition is nice, I'd be happy to have that out of my camera. It's however not stunning/dramatic enough: It feels the conditions could have allowed for a drop-dead gorgeous magazine cover shot:
I feel you settled for a somewhat conventional framing solution, A but not A+ material... Pretty but not quite inspirational...

My 2 cents.

Thanks. I'll take an A. If only my grades were that high in school...

Yes, I would be very happy to add this image to my portfolio as well.

It is definitely A work! And that is the beauty of photography - there is always room to learn, grow and improve. If every shot was A+ then it would probably be boring or too easy. Even Mark A. has his bad seasons before hitting home run shots like the one I referenced above.
