Lovely image John, I wonder if the branch is adding anything though as it is completely detached from anything.... the rusty barbed wire perch is great as is the pose.

Wow, John,
what a great shot. I find the squarish composition, twig, beak, wire interesting.
Compliment! :toast:

Very nice John - lovely BG and the wire perch is great :toast:

I to find the twig adds nothing, though with those lichens it would make a very nice perch in its own right :wavey:

I like the way the rusty wire reflects the rusty breast. The branch is fine by me. I have a technical question. Did you lighten the bird's head? The reason I ask is that I am just aware of a faint broad halo around the head and neck. It could of course be completely natural or a figment of my imagination. However, I do see it on a few images, including my own and it's more apparent out of the corner of your eye if you look at the breast. I'm just curious!

Wonderfull shot but agree with th eothers that removing the branch would improve it.

Thanks all. If anyone wants to have a go at twig felling - feel free !!
If I do it it will end up a right mess,!

No , every now and then a background seems to be in the wrong place with a particular shape of lighness. Thnat's what happened here, and it happens quite a lot in fact. The image was processed from RAW in Bibble and I haven't got a clue what I did !! Stuff the RAW I am going back to what I know best !! Biggie jaypegs.
The only reason I did go for RAW was I know I was going to blow the forehead.

Hi John,

Another excellent image. I would get the Black and Decker out and sort that twig ....

Please will you send some Redstarts up North when you have finished with them ?

Thanks

Austin

John

Honest opinion, the first post is the stronger, the second is just another technically perfect bird on a rather uninteresting “stick”. In the second post it needs cropping so as to increase emphasis on the bird, the first didn’t

Always remember, some people always have to “say” something.

But hey, it all down to what rocks your boat, like viewpoint.

Did well with the cloning.

I prefer with twig here John. I know it comes from nowhere and purists don't like that and indeed I have said the same and opted for stating removal as a preference but the image is a lot stronger in the first post. Now I'm confused as it really should not be appearing from nowhere like that and look so damn good

It's a great image :toast: and great cloning too

I usually like a bit of environment in bird pictures, but in this case prefer the second picture. I don`t think the dead twig coming in from nowhere adds anything, although if it had a few leaves attached to it, that would be different!
I would also crop or clone out the bit of barbed wire sticking upright on the very left edge.
The second shot is lovely!

Thanks
I should have mentioned, the twig was put in the fence for the bird to sit on! - but it preferred the wire !

Prefer the second post as it presents a cleaner leass distracting image. Would be tempted to take a wee tad of the LHS but only to center the bird a wee bit more, say up to the o in john... very small and minor alteration though. The barb wire works well.

Like the second the better of the two and agree would shave off that last bit of barbed wire on the left. Otherwise I like the positioning as is with it looking to its right. Good job with the cloning too. Maybe it'll oblige and sit on the perch next time!
