Giant Swallowtail on Hoary Vervain
I forced myself to get away today and took a drive in the Glacial Hills, found in extreme northeastern Kansas. I was out scouting for scenic locations but while travelling along a backroad near the Missouri river I came across a small hillside meadow teaming with wildflowers and butterflies. I had to stop and shoot even though the lightly overcast skies were giving way to sunny conditions in the early afternoon.

Giant swallowtail butterfly on hoary vervain ... I think. Thanks for looking! :wavey:

I believe you're right on both counts. Nice the swallowtail posed so well for you on such a lovely wildflower. Very pretty!

Wayne, this is nice all around. I really like the DOF for the subjects with the subtle backgound.

Glad to see you getting out to do some shooting Wayne. Even with the bright skies you got a very nice capture. Beautiful Swallowtail, the dark color really looks good here.
Get out more bud, it'll do ya good!

This is really outstanding Wayne. Great depth of field, light, composition...everything. I'm glad to know what those purple flowers are now - they're beautiful.
