I took my 70-300mm IS out for probably the final time yesterday morning. I was staying at a mates house on the Test river and took a walk before breakfast with the 400d and 70-300mm handheld. It is a good spot for Bandeds and I struck it lucky.
This guy was so busy watching me that he failed to notice the Hover Fly hiding just below him. My 100-400mm IS should arrive this week so can't wait to try it out.

Canon 400d, 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM, iso400, f9, 1/200th, handheld with onboard flash, cropped and usm applied.
Thanks guys. I was limited all round here. This was on a walk with non-photographers so understanding was minimal
There were constant cloud and wind movements and rain on and off. The males are extremely skittish and don't tolerate easy approach (too many dogs and walkers along).
I will try to get a better set of shots when I can get out on my own with either the 100-400mm and extension tubes or my 150mm Macro when it comes back from the repairshop.
