I've been off on a 3-week trip around the western U.S. and got to see lots of amazing country. There were way too many sunny, cloudless days, but there were, of course, still plenty of photo ops. Here's a link to some of the pics:
I can't see that all those sunny days hindered your photography. Great gallery! Until I get back to a high speed connection, I'll just have to drool over the thumbnails.
Awesome collection of images, I particularly like the waterfalls and misty forest images like the one posted here. Looks like it was a pretty fruitful 3 weeks!.
My 2 favorites are the 2nd shot (ocean surf, OlympicNP?) is super sweet and the 2nd redwood shot with the sunbeam is killer. I also really liked the waterfalls and the other Columbia River Gorge shots as well as the John Day Fossil Beds shots. Were there babies in the Yellowstone eagle nest?
Grant....excellent collection. Wow you had an mazing array of places in that trip!! Great captures from all of them...good work as always! regards, Rajeev.
Thanks, everyone. Yes, Erik, it is a shame. All that driving and $1,500 in gas for nothing! At least I got to visit some old college friends, though... I was lucky to get the fog with the Redwoods. I was going to shoot more of the Oregon coast, but headed straight for the Redwoods when I woke up and saw the fog. I saw the angled light rays while driving, slammed on my brakes, jumped out, ran across the road, and got two shots before the light rays faded. I had the wrong lens on, so I had to crop in a little, but was lucky to find a decent composition right where I was.
Yes, Jesse, that is the eagle along the main road in West Yellowstone. I had to crop in a little there too, as 300mm wasn't enough. Yep, Don, there was one (rather large) baby bird that kept popping his head up. Here's a shot with the baby eagle (I'm sure many will like this one better, since it has the baby): http://www.gcollier.com/Baby-Eagle.jpg
Yes, Sal, the waterfalls are all in Oregon. The ones I visited were Ponytail Falls, Multnomah Falls, Oneonta Falls, South Falls, Salt Creek Falls, and Proxy Falls. The falls names are on the web page URLs. No place like Oregon for scenic waterfalls.
You sure covered a lot of ground and must have been running on adrenaline to get so many great shots.
I am sure you have a lot of other great ones as well that you haven't posted yet. That is one of the hardest parts from a trip like this - just narrowing down your favorites. I bet there will be some that you go back to later and like which you didn't think much of during your first processing pass.
My personal favorites are the redwoods with the sun rays and the Salt Creek Falls shot. That is one that I didn't get to see on our PNW trip. But I plan to see it next time along with Crater Lake.
