I visited a very special place in Carter County, Tn. Tuesday. Its called the Blue Hole. It is a series of four waterfalls on Mill Creek.
Wondeful place to visit on an overcast day, no wind and the Rhodies were blooming. This shot is the second of the four falls.

Harold, I really enjoyed your collection of shots. IMHO, this one is nice but it doesn't sing as sweet as a lot of your other shots from there. Again, you really captured the beauty of the place - Congrats!!
So is this a normal time for the Rosebay to bloom down in the valleys? I've noticed that they do tend to bloom later than the Catawbas, but I didn't realize they still would be blooming. Are they blooming elsewhere?
I'm still struggling with the learning curve in posting photos. The original is much more sharp and crisp.
To answer Johns question. This is the Rhododendron maximum ....also commonly referred to as the Great Rhodendron or Rosebay Rhododendron as you correctly referred to. I believe these are the last of the large rhodies to bloom. They will start blooming at the first of July all the way into August at the highest elevations. At this particular location they are at peak this week. You can find these blooming all along the Blue Ridge Parkway right NOW.!!!
Here is another photo that may better represent the "Blue Hole".
I am open for comments and suggestions...

This is nice and seems like you were building up to posting some of the other shots which are even better. I really like the shots of this taken from the other side much more.
Al of them make this look like a great place to see ourselves.

I'm surprised the Rhodies were still in bloom. I was on Roan July 3 and they were pretty much gone.
