Birds nest orchid - Neottia nidus-avis
One from my recent walking holiday in Austria, (I hope I have my id correct!)

Olympus E-3, 14-54 at 29mm, hand held, iso100 1/125 at F4, jpeg file, slight compositional crop and resize.

Taken at about 2000m in pine forest, although my flower guide suggests that the main habitat is beech woodland, I later came across a superb clump of about 20 spikes, but they were less photogenic.

Looks about right for ID Mike. Seen these in the uk a few times.
Could do with a little sharpening I reckon but thats probably aperture and wide angle that's caused the effect.I know its hard to get the whole plant in with a WA and get it sharp on screen. A lot easier in some ways picking a bit of the plant with a macro but thats not always what we want .
Good "plant as we see it" shot though.
Cheers

Agree with Andrew. I think I would have walked straight passed it thinking it had gone over. Just goes to show what I know about orchids!

This is one of the forms of plants without any chlorophyl, the other genus of broomrapes and toothworts are usually found parasitising grasses and meadow flowers in open meadows, the orchids (birds nest, ghost, etc) are woodland based.

In beech woodland these orchids are easily missed as they blend in so well with the surrounding leaf litter
